Afkaaruna Values & Character Education (AVCE)

We must remember that intelligence is not enough. Intelligence plus character -that is the goal  of education [Martin Luther King Jr.]

Afkaaruna Islamic School prepares each child with strong character to thrive in the future driven by globalization. Therefore, the “Afkaaruna Values & Characters Education” [AVCE] has always been at the heart of Afkaaruna Education System [AfIES] which has been built to follow the concept of aligning three values: Islam, local values and international mindedness.

Although sometimes character education used to be designated by and within other schools, the 8 AVCE is uniquely developed for the purpose of achieving the academic goals of Afkaaruna Islamic School. This is taken from tashawwafi principles being synchronized with the 21st century character and, finally, divided into three areas: al-Qalb management skills, personal skills and social awareness and relationship management skills

  1. Al-Qalb Management

This is the core value that is fundamental for a good person which is derived from our shared Islamic values. These skills considered as the foundation of character that provide compass for behavior. They can guide students to effectively manage their heart (qalb) and help them to make responsible choices.

  1. Personal Characters
  1. Interpersonal Characters

The goal of AVCE is to inculcate characters and build competencies in our students to develop them to be a good individual muslim who is respect to local values, proud of his/her home country and ready to contribute to global vision. This is in line with our vision; “preparing students to become al-insaan al-kamil and locally rooted global citizens”.

The character development can be done through Role Model, Cognition to Habituation Strategy, Wise Quotes, Reward and punishment procedures, Good habit is as mentioned and displayed in every classroom rules, and Specified Programs such as an Afkaaruna Camp, Morning circle time, al-Qishah an-Nabawiy (after dzuhur prayer or home reading)—takrir and motivation and reflection/lesson learned, and Evening circle time-reflexive closing—-reflexive form. Self-assessment will instill the students about the good deed. Parents also will be asked to give evaluation about kid’s habit at home.

In conclusion, the AVCE is specifically designed to foster character in and within the domain of tashawwafa
